Mike Fernandez, Chairman
Miguel (Mike) Fernandez currently serves as Chairman of MBF Healthcare Partners, L.P., a private equity firm with committed capital in excess of $500 million located in Coral Gables, Florida.  The firm focuses on investing in healthcare service companies nationwide.

A healthcare entrepreneur who has created a variety of uniquely targeted healthcare firms. Since 1992, Mr. Fernandez has sold several firms generating more than $1 billion to shareholders.  Mr. Fernandez's career has centered on acquiring, growing and divesting of healthcare services companies.

Mr. Fernandez's career in healthcare began in 1976.  It is from this early experience of developing health insurance programs for the elderly and employer groups that he began to conceptualize innovative ideas for managed care.  He was Founder, President and CEO of Group Tech Systems, Inc., the first national database of group health insurance information.  After merging Group Tech into Comprehensive Benefit Administrators, Inc. (CBAI), Mr. Fernandez developed CBAI into a full-service benefits company which was sold to RHMO in 1990.  He served as Executive Vice President of Ramsay-HMO, Inc. from 1990 to 1992 when he founded Physicians Healthcare Plans, Inc., which was sold to Amerigroup Corporation in 2002.  His most recent divestiture, CarePlus Health Plans, Inc., was acquired by Humana in 2005.

In addition, Mr. Fernandez has invested in other health and financial companies.  He is currently on the board of directors of MEDNAX, Inc. (NYSE: MD) and FDC/Nutri-Force Vitamins.  His community service endeavors include serving on the boards of the United Way of Miami-Dade County and the University of Miami.  He is also Vice Chairman of the University of Miami Medical Affairs Committee.  He formerly served on the board of the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation.  Mr. Fernandez has been honored frequently with recognition for his business acumen.  He was named Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 1995.  Mr. Fernandez attended Northern Virginia Community College, the University of New Mexico and Miami-Dade College as well as serving in the United States Army.
